Preparing Ahead...
Last year, I tried a few times to prepare food ahead of time for dinners. It didn't go as well as I had hoped but this year...it is my mission! Nathan and I have joined efforts in planning and making meals...as well as cleaning after dinner.
{I can say that our house is cleaned and our meals are prepared for this weekend! Yes!}
On our meal plan, tonight we were grilling burgers, hot dogs and zucchini/squash. To make life easier, I asked Nathan if he could throw on some boneless, skinless chicken breasts that I had marinaded on for me. He, of course, said yes he would! I had 4 large chicken breasts that have been in the freezer (added the marinade before I froze them last month) - I was excited to see how many meals I could make for Nathan and I!
As you can see, I have 4 freezer bags prepared. Here is a breakdown of the chicken and meals I will use them in:
- Shredded chicken - Chicken Burritos
- Grilled chicken - as is with veggies
- Sliced chicken - Creamy Chicken Pasta
- Diced chicken - Chicken Tortilla Soup
I purchased the chicken at Sam's Club on sale for $1.57/lb. I love getting it at Sam's Club because you get larger chicken breasts. I was amazed at how many meals I could get out of one pack from there!
Yesterday, I also put chopped kale in separate freezer bags for future meals. I love planning ahead!
What do you prepare ahead? How has it worked for you? Any suggestions for me?

I just made TONS of food for our freezer. Soups always do really well for us, since I can throw them in the crock pot completely frozen and they're ready for supper. I also do casseroles that I can throw in the oven completely frozen. I even made some crackers, granola and hummus. I plan on doing a lot more before third trimester, but I have to clear some space in our freezer first. =)
