Aldi Shopping Trip

Tonight, I needed to head out to Aldi for a few things. My list was sugar, rice, baking powder, one cream cheese and fruit. As you can see, other items were added to the cart. Nathan and I are not going to be going shopping next week and hopefully the only thing we will need the week after that is milk. We shall see. :D

Here is a breakdown:

- Shredded Wheat 1.79
- Cranberry Orange Muffin Mix 1.99 (my favorite!!)
- Sugar 2.79
- Peaches (can) 1.29
- Long Grain Rice 1.69
- Sliced Pepperoni 1.99 (at least 3-4 pizzas)
- Oriental Stir Fry Bag 3.49 (at least 2-3 meals)
- Navel Oranges 1.49
- Sauerkraut (can) .65
- Cream Cheese 1.19
- Mixed Berry Cereal Bars 1.89 (for little miss hailey)
- Cookie Dough Ice Cream 2.69 (Nathan's addition)
- Baking Powder .89

Total Spent: $23.83 plus tax

Total Leftover for the month: $46.60 - $56.60

I am pretty sure we can stretch this. We will be grilling a lot of different foods tomorrow night for next week. Grilled chicken breasts, hamburgers, hot dogs, squash, zucchini and fish.   Tonight, I split one pound ground beef for taco meat and meat for spaghetti. Taco meat is in the freezer and we ate the meat with spaghetti for dinner. Yummy.

What are ways you are saving time for meals? I would love to hear!

  1. I have been trying to come up with a plan to save time this year. And money of course.

Ground beef (turkey) is very versatile and you can cook so many meals with it: pasta, shepherd's pie, soup (my husband makes a delicious soup with lots of veggies and ground beef), chili, meatballs, burgers.

You can make a lot of meat sauce (ragu, as the italians call it) and freeze it. I also make chili and freeze it. I make meatballs (i like to bake them in the oven) and freeze them as well, then just throw them in sauce and cook them for a little longer.

We decided we are going to eat a lot of soups this winter. A pot of soup should last us 2-3 days.

P.S. We used to live in Chattanooga area too. My husband's family is still there.

  2. Thank you for all the ideas! I will try out the meatballs. I love them but my husband is not a huge fan but if I have them frozen, I could pop out a few for my pasta! I have some spaghetti sauce in the freezer right now (need to use it). Shepherd's pie sounds delicious!

We also decided to eat soup at least once a week. It is quick and easy. Especially yummy if you make grilled cheese to go along with it.

Where do you live now? I love Chattanooga. I am originally from Erie, Pa - moved here to marry my hubby. :D

  3. I just found this soup that looks delicious and it's easy to make. Thought I'd share it with you. This guy has some great recipes on his blog.

We live in Marietta GA now.

I haven't had the chance to read the whole blog... do you coupon? Let me know if you're interested in any coupons. It seems that we get better ones in the Atlanta area.

  4. Thank you for the recipe! Also, yes I do coupon! Hoping that we will start having better sales to get my stock filled up. I have a stock pile area but it is slowly getting low. Still have tons of toothpaste and floss and vitamins but am looking to get some toilet paper, shampoo/conditioner and more! Thanks again!

  5. I will check my coupons and let you know what I got.

I don't ever find really good coupons for toilet paper, but I was able to get a good deal on Amazon: Quilted Northern double roll 12ct - $6.47

Make sure you stop by Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens. It's the perfect time to stock up on shampoo/conditioner, since they all have clearance on shampoos: Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essence, Aussie, Tresemme. They are 50-75% off.

  6. Thanks! I have gone to two Walgreens over the weekend and they were sold out of the great deals on shampoo/conditioner. I am going to go to CVS sometime this week - my favorite place to shop.
Our Rite Aids are value stores so they never have good sales. I use to do all my shopping there. I would get tons of stuff for free or close to it but not really anymore.

  7. I have a lot of coupons from last week's paper. I got some Aveda hair care, Aveda baby, I also got some from this week's paper, Huggies and Scott. Let me know if you need anything. Also, if you shop at Publix I got some baby coupons that you can combine with the manufacturer ones for a better deal.
